Corfu

The Old Olive Press Guest House

Formerly an olive press, this house stands directly on the course of the Corfu Trail, the island’s long-distance footpath, and was recently converted for the purpose of letting to walkers, as well as to other visitors during the course of the summer. Accordingly, the accommodation comprises four units, all with separate access. The owners use the two front ones as their own living space. Currently, the units are laid out as:

1) Front, lower floor: hallway with kitchen/utility alcove, double bedroom, corridor, bathroom. This unit opens to a wide alley and has close access to the garden below.

2) Front, upper floor: hallway, corridor with shelving, small lounge, fitted kitchen. This unit is accessed by way of an external metal staircase.

3) Rear, lower floor: double bedroom, bathroom. This unit opens onto a walled courtyard.

4) Rear, upper floor: double bedroom, bathroom. This unit has access by way of an extenal stone stairway from a second courtyard.

On the far side of the property is a large space backed by a ruined wall, and construction here could provide a good sized independant house with two floors (or a smaller one with a mezzanine sleeping platform) for the use of the owners, thus freeing units 1) and 2) for rental purposes. Kitchen appliances, beds, fitted wardrobes and some shelving are part of the purchase. The outside space comprises two courtyards at the rear, one leading from the other. The larger one has high old walls on two sides, and contains flower beds, the olive press crushing wheel and a lean-to shed. At the front, slightly lower than the house, is a flat garden with a lemon and a mandarin tree. This is currently grass and would benefit from paving to make a sunbathing terrace. The garden and the house enjoy a beautiful, extensive country view over the valley towards the west, with a lovely sunset between the hills. Road access and parking are close to the property.

Price: €130.000,- (additional costs excluded)
