New built: Varee Project!!
Following the successful sale of the Katikia and Agrikia projects near Arillas, the development company Petra Traditional Constructions has acquired another plot nearby and now presents the Varee Project. The plot of land is gently sloping and has olive trees and a sea view. Three houses are planned (architect’s drawings available), with their design based on the original Katikia Farmhouse (artist’s impression by Sara Button), home still of Papaspiros and Eleni Tsoukalas, parents of Harry, co-Director of Luvcorfu Properties and Petra Traditional Constructions.
The houses are 63 sq.m. but appear much larger due to modern building techniques and cathedral-style ceilings up to the beams. The floorplan comprises two rectangles, one larger than the other. The smaller one contains the kitchen, which opens into the larger block, comprising the lounge, two bedrooms (one double, one single) and the bathroom. A roofed veranda stretches in front.
The houses will be built using traditional techniques and materials. Limewash paint tinted with natural colours is used, as are old rooftiles set in the authentic way (roofs are fully insulated). Rendering is not smoothed off into dead flat planes and regular lines. Buyers have the option of choosing veranda supports made of olive wood boughs trimmed from on-site trees (example illustrated) and old beams for the ceiling. Salvaged and reconditioned doors and windows are also available if desired, helping to achieve the vernacular look which Petra always aims to create. Internally, the houses come with beautiful fitted kitchens (example illustrated), with state-of-the-art appliances installed.
Waste is disposed of using a completely biological system which emits clean water suitable for garden use, and this, together with the chemical-free paint and use of many recycled materials, make them a very ‘green’ option as well as a fine contrast to the identical concrete boxes which many other developers churn out (or - worse - the Canadian-style log cabins which have recently come on the market).
The plot is located in a very peaceful spot about two kilometres from Arillas Beach with its good low-key resort facilities, and is also very handy for Agios Georgios Beach and for lovely Afiones. Orientated towards the westering sun, the area also enjoys gorgeous sunsets and long evenings. Immensely affordable, these houses are bound to prove popular. Plots in other locations (Karousades, Analypsis, Aspiotades and Kastellani Messis) are in an earlier stage of development.
